Our new offices in Brussels
EAEA had been looking for new office space for quite some time. In the old building, things did not work properly any more, and so we knew that it was time to move on. After looking at either very bad places (no windows, no infrastructure) that we could have afforded or very nice places that we could not, good luck helped us out. Sue Waddington, our president, attended a meeting in Brussels and returned with the Eurostar, where she met a former colleague. This colleague now works for a consultancy firm who had just leased an office building in Brussels, and indeed they were looking for an association to share the office with.
We moved on the 19th of August and are very happy in our new premises. We´re in a lovely old Brussels house that has been renovated very well. We share a very nice meeting room, which leads to a small patio and garden. Our landlord is on the first floor, and EAEA on the second. Gina Ebner has a small office on her own, Valentina Chanina is in one the bigger offices, which she will share with interns or volunteers. Marta Lottes and Andrew Button share the second larger office.
One of the main highlights of the new space is its location - we are just round the corner from Place du Luxembourg, which is the square in front of the European Parliament. We can, in fact, see the Parliament from our windows. This is of course a good opportunity to intensify our contacts with the MEPs, and we are already planning various activities such as sending a welcome pack to them, in which we introduce EAEA, non-formal adult education and some of our most important topics. Next year, we will also organize a policy breakfast in the EP.
