EAEA's Vice President Katarina Popovic has been elected as the new Secretary General of ICAE. She'll begin her work on July 1st.
The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) has appointed Professor Katarina Popovic, of the Serbian Adult Education Society and University of Belgrade in Serbia, as its new Secretary General. She will succeed Celita Eccher who has held the position for the last thirteen years.
Katarina Popovic has had a distinguished career in academic and in civil society settings. She has been active in the Serbian peace movements and worked for many years in collaboration with DVV International (the German International Development Agency for Adult Education). She has published widely and worked in many countries in Europe, central Asia and the Middle East.
"To be the Secretary General of ICAE is a great honour and huge responsibility. I cannot think of a more important task in the field of global adult education than to run an organisation as ICAE ‐ to be the voice and representation of adult learning and to fight for the right to education for everyone," Ms. Popovic commented her new position.
Ms. Popovic is currently a Vice President of EAEA and she has been a member of the EAEA Executive Board since 2008. Due to her new post she will be leaving her position as an EAEA Board member. A new member will be appointed to the Board at the EAEA General Assembly which will be held in Brussels in June. Ms. Popovic will officially begin her work in ICAE on July 1st.
EAEA congratulates Katarina for her new position!
