Migrant learners get personalised support in Austria

EAEA GRUNDTVIG AWARD 2016. Many migrants who do not participate in lifelong learning are simply unaware of the existing possibilities. Bildungstreff Oberes Murtal facilitates the flow of information in the Austrian region of Styria.

The article series shares good practices by introducing the nominees of the EAEA Grundtvig Award 2016.

Education should be accessible to everybody – this is the belief of Bildungstreff Oberes Murtal in Styria, Austria. To facilitate access to education particularly for migrants, the organisation launched a wide campaign about opportunities that are available in the region.

Thanks to a contact point now firmly established, migrants can receive updated information about different services they can use. They can also participate in “education breakfasts”, which allow them to exchange advice about education and compare each other’s experiences. To make sure that potential learners get personalised support, the organisation also provides educational counselling services, with around 450 beneficiaries in 2015.

More events are planned for the months to come, including a symposium on migration and adult education as well as migration and education in the countryside.
