Mission statement

Adult Education Society, non-governmental organization established in 2000 has the mission to promote adult education and learning and to foster the culture of lifelong and lifewide learning. We give support to providers of adult education and learning, to policy makers, as well as individuals and specific target groups. It is our goal to contribute to the development of the society where everyone will have the access to high quality education and learning, no matter what age, gender and social group. We support strategic development of adult education, science and research, quality provision and, above all, professionalisation of the field - trainings, further education, certification, networking of the professionals and staff in adult education. Regional and European networking and cooperation is one of our focal points.

Main activities

Adult Education Society has a broad range of activities:

  • Support adult education providers with equipment and help them with the development of infrastructure, cooperation and networking;
  • Promotion and lobbying for adult education, popularization of lifelong and lifewide learning philosophy (e.g. organizing Adult Education Festival);
  • Advising policy makers on strategic development and legal establishment of adult education;
  • Increasing quality of adult education provision by introduction the European standards of certification (in computing, foreign languages and other subjects);
  • Professionalisation of adult education - education and training for multipliers and certification of adult education staff; a wide range of capacity building activities (design and delivery of short-term and long-term train-the-trainer programmes, multipliers training, networking activities for wide range of organizations);
  • Trainings for specific target groups (e.g. senior citizens, women, etc.) and specific fields (e.g. trainings for active citizenship, intercultural learning, art-based learning, etc.);
  • Design and organisation of vocational continuing education; development of modern didactical approaches and teaching and training methods in adult education;
  • Conduct local, regional and international events - seminars, conferences, study visits;
  • Participation in local, regional and international projects and in exchange programs that support European networking, European integration and internationalisation of the country and South East Europe region through adult education;
  • Publication of specialized literature and an adult education journal (“Andragogical Studies”);
  • Specific activities like: Implementation of Belém Framework for action (regional coordination of activities within dvv international project CONFINTEA VI in action, monitoring and reporting about achieving goals, etc.);

Publications

Andragogical Studies is the Journal for the Study of Adult Education and Learning, scholarly refereed, devoted to theoretical, historical, comparative and empirical studies in adult and continuing education, lifelong and lifewide learning. Andragogical Studies was launched in 1994, and since 2002 the journal is published twice annually. Articles are available in the following website: http://www.as.edu.rs/.
