The Government´s Action Plan on Social Exclusion, ‘Reaching
Out´ was launched on 11
September 2006. The Action Plan details the Government´s
drive to improve the life chances and opportunities of the most disadvantaged
and hard-to-reach families and individuals in society. The Government is
committed to reducing and preventing the harm and cost caused by social
exclusion to individuals, their families and to communities. The Conference provides an
opportunity for learning and skills practitioners and those in associated
agencies to come together to consider the significance of the Social Exclusion
Action Plan for their work.
The principal aim of the conference is to
familiarise these sectors with the content of the Action Plan and to consider
whether lifelong learning providers, including those working with families, are
doing enough to break the cycles of deprivation and disadvantage that are
evidenced in ‘Reaching Out´.
