History
The Institute for Sustainable Technologies- National Research Institute in Radom (ITeE-PIB) is a state-owned scientific and research institute established in 1986. The Institute is involved in complex scientific, research, development and implementation projects. The Institute has the highest category in Polish scientific institutions classification. It comes under the Ministry of Economy and Labour, has close contacts with the Ministry of National Education and Sport and the Ministry of Science and Information Society Technologies.
In 2004 the Institute obtained the status of a National Research Institute (as the third such institute in Poland) as well as the ISO 9001 : 2000 / EN ISO 9001: 2000 TÜV Certiificate confirming that the Institute has established and applies a quality system for (among others) continuing vocational education - Certificate Registration Number 04100 19990040-E2.
Main act
Vocation-related research, curricula design and experimental courses started years ago led to creation of a recognized in Poland and abroad scientific centre of pedagogy of work. The Centre solves theoretical and methodological problems of building multi-level vocational continuing systems. The Centre executes a full cycle of basic and applied research till wide implementation of results of all-Polish pedagogical experiments and international projects (Phare, Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, Jean Monnet, 5FP, EQF), dissemination of scientific information and publishing journals and scientific monographs series, organization of national and international scientific conferences.
Directions of the Centre´s scientific-research activities are oriented on new technologies of continuing education in occupations than create development of technical and organizational innovation:
• vocation-related research, environment and contents, designing of vocational qualifications standards;
• validation of vocational qualifications;
• theoretical and methodological basics of vocational education continuing system;
• modular technologies;
• education for small and medium enterprises;
• education in the field of modern technologies of production and maintenance;
• quality of education, examination standards, recognition of qualifications, certification and accreditation
The Centre designed a broad range of experts´ reports for the Ministry of National Education and Sports, the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Social Policy and the Ministry of Science and Informatization. The reports concerned: specification of graduates´ qualifications development; designing curricula of specialized vocational classes; development and execution of the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Social Policy staff education system; development of occupations´ description for new classification of occupations adapted to ISCO-88 requirements; analysis of statutory, branch and central offices´ legal regulations that applied to selected occupations; links between employers´ requirements and vocational curricula; counseling and supporting the activities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the project carried by State Committee of Scientific Research (KBN) in the field of information systems, training and counseling; premises and effects of functioning of continuing vocational training centers.
The Centre cooperates with many national institutions on execution of research projects, pedagogical experiments and innovations and in the framework of Polish Network of Modular Education (PSKM), as well as, international - EMCET de Bank database designed under the Leonardo da Vinci project. Polish partners (projects´ partners and members of the network) include the representatives of employers, social partners and scientific and educational teams, among others: Institute of Educational Reasearch of MoNE, National Centre of Vocational and Continuing Education Support, Centres of Practical Education, Centres of Continuing Education, Complexes of Technical and Vocational Schools, Vocational Development Centres, Methodic Centres of the Province, universities, small and medium enterprises, Voluntary Work Regiments, Centres of Teachers´ Development, branch associations.
The Centre has also broad experience in international co - operation. Universities, research institutes, international networks of educational institutions and social societies are among its partners.
International cooperation concerns:
- comparative studies of educational systems, vocational and education curricula development, teaching methods and materials,
- modernization of education including scientific support for implementation of a new curricula documentation, regional systems of vocational education, teachers´ education,
- development of systems: vocational qualifications standards and modular curricula of vocational education and training,
- recognition of vocational and general education certificates and qualifications issued in Poland and the EU countries,
- vocational education of academic scientific staff and teachers in the field of new technologies of production and pedagogy of work.

Dissemination of the project´s outcomes takes place by publishing and printing methodic and information materials, articles and reports in the ITeE´s Publishing House, which sells and promotes its publications by the network of bookstores and warehouses all over Poland. The institute is an editor and co - editor of 13 all - Polish scientific journals (13.600 copies altogether) including pedagogical ones: Adult Continuing Education, Pedagogy of Work, Pedagogical Yearbook, Pedagogical Studies, Historical - Pedagogical Review, Social Pedagogy and the all - Polish monographic series the Library of Pedagogy of Work.
Over last two years Staff Education and Development Centre has organized or co - organized of 45 national and international conferences, seminars and methodic workshops for 3400 representatives of universities, scientific, methodic and educational institutions from Poland, countries of the EU and the Eastern Europe which aimed at promotion of the projects´ outcomes.
