The term has become so widespread as to almost lose its meaning. Lifelong learning is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviours. This normative slogan usually ignores the historical insight, that "lifelong learning" is not a desideratum of our modern world but has been an empirical fact as conditio humana at all times. Therefore, "lifelong learning" is more a descriptive than a normative term: it is based on the adaptability as the fundamental human faculty.
