Katarina Popovic

Ms Katarina Popovic has studied adult education at the University of Belgrade, with BA degree in adult education; she made her doctorate study at the University of Aachen in the same area, obtaining PhD degree. She is Professor at the Department for Adult Education, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade since 1989 and on and conduct researches in the area of adult education and lifelong learning in the last 15 years. She was also visiting professor for adult education on several European universities.

Dr Popovic is President of the Adult Education Society since 2001, which is national nongovernmental organization where the most important experts, young researchers and adult education students work on projects in adult education, offer the trainings, develop strategic papers. Special importance is given to the regional and international cooperation - Adult Education Society is very active in it - with its member, but also with numerous partners from various areas of learning, education, employment. European integration processes in adult education and via adult education are of special importance, so Adult Education Society and Dr Katarina Popovic work intensively to support these processes. They conducted projects with various international donors and partners: dvv international, KulturKontakt, Roma Education Fund, CIDA and with the variety of national and regional partner.

Dr Popovic has wide experience in project application and project management, especially in projects related to: promotion and lobbying for adult education and LLL (like lifelong learning festivals), working with marginalized groups (minorities, Roma, unemployed), civic, peace and intercultural education, education for key competences and life skills, and so on. Her special area is professionalisation of adult education and preparation of staff. She brings the experience from her Department, which has 30 year experience in preparing student to work in this area, but she has also developed curriculum and conducted projects for further and continuing education of various groups of teachers and trainers in the area of adult education. She has also developed and organized numerous meetings, seminars, colloquiums and conferences.

Dr Popovic is national coordinator of dvv-international for Serbia; She is also Member of Balkan Association for Pedagogy and Education, of ESREA and ISCAE; Editor of the AE journal "Andragogical studies" and several books in AE;" member of national expert team for adult education of Serbian Ministry of Education; author of numerous articles in this field; participant/organizer of numerous international meetings, seminars, conferences; experienced trainer in several areas of AE and LLL.

She has highly developed IT competencies, she is skilled in management, organization, communication and interpersonal relations, especially in intercultural environment and has record on numerous trainings and further education activities. Expect her mother tongue - Serbian (which makes her easy to communicate in Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrinian, but also in close languages like Macedonian and Bulgarian), she speaks fluently German and English, while her French and Russian are in the process of improvement.

She is married, with one child.

 

Possible contribution:

* Ms Popovic could contribute with her profound knowledge in the area and with research competencies and experience;

* Her experiences and competencies obtained through practical work in adult education and lifelong learning - both from various projects and concrete adult education and training activities could be implemented in many concrete activities of EAEA;

* Since the issue of preparation of adult education staff has a great importance in Europe, her experience in this area (teaching, training, curriculum development) could be relevant for various in EAEA projects;

* More of all, Ms Popovic could contribute to the stronger connection of EAEA with partners and organizations in South-East Europe and could significantly support networking in the region. Her contacts and experience with the projects, donors, organizations and decision makers from this region could play an important role for various activities of EAEA and add an additional value to the broad European profile of EAEA. The contacts with expert and partners in the region of South-East Europe could be useful for further EAEA projects applications and activities.
