Although the two events above, i.e. the World Social Forum and the financial summit meeting in Davos, taking place recently, were not mentioned in the EAEA board meeting held in Berlin, keeping an eye on both of them could be the best metaphor to use when describing the EAEA´s main focus at the board session.
3rd Grundtvig Award accepts nominations
The European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) has decided to invite projects dealing with "Active Citizenship in a Democratic Society" for this years Grundtvig-Award. Deadline for submission is November 2.

Investment in education: the implications for economic growth and public finances
This Commission paper analyses the demographic and institutional influences underlying public spending on education, as well as the consequences for average educational attainment and economic growth.
EU commission refocuses Lisbon aims
The new EU commission has presented its first real strategy suggestions for the coming years. According to the press releases the aim is to try and boost employment by rearranging the Lisbon 2010 Agenda, and focusing more on fewer goals.
Europass launched
Luxembourg hosted the official event in which the renamed Europass was officially launched.
The Europass (formerly know as EURO-CV) is designed to help citizens communicate their qualifications and skills throughout Europe. It has now been launched amid among other things students' concerns that other education priorities are not being given enough attention.
CFP on general activities of observation, analysis and innovation
By publishing the present call, the Commission is inviting proposals for the implementation of "General activities of observation, analysis and innovation", action 6 of the SOCRATES programme (OJEC Series C N°5 8/1/2005).

Non-formal adult education and competencies
In December the EAEA member organisations SoCiuS (B) and Beraadsgroep Vorming (NL) organised a conference on recognition of competencies gained through previous educational and life experience competencies in the field of non-formal adult education in Antwerp (Belgium).
