This is an examination of the wide range of current practice in Learning Centres in Europe, and of their future prospects. As well as chapters reviewing the European experience as a whole, it includes contributions from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Spain and the UK presenting national experiences and describing distinctive visions for the future.

Publication: Learning Democratically: using study circles

Study circles are groups which manage their own learning, embody democratic practice, and employ procedures that develop participantsī capacity to become confident as both learners and citizens, better able to act and take charge of their own destinies. This book shows how study circles offer an alternative to a narrow skills-based approach to learning and argues that their potential should be recognised by both practitioners and policy-makers.

More lifelong learning for adults

MEPs adopted two legislative reports in the field of education. The first report relates to lifelong learning where MEPs welcome the creation of a European frame of reference for key competences offering EU citizens a tool to adapt to an evolving labour market in a knowledge based society. The second report relates to the creation of a quality charter for student mobility. Both reports were adopted in first reading after agreement with Council.
