History

The Institute is the successor of the "Research Pedagogical Institute of the RSFSR" (1946-1956), later the Leningrad Research Pedagogical Institute of the RSFSR (1956-1962), the Institute of Evening and Correspondence School of the RSFSR" (1962-1965), later the "Institute of Evening (Shift) and Correspondence Secondary School of the RSFSR´s AE" (1965-1978), the "Research Institute of Adult General Education of the USSR" (1978-1988), later the "Research Institute of Continuing Adult Education" (1988-1995).

Main act

• Study, generalization, distribution of the experience of development of adult education and educational activities in the Russian Federation and other memebrs of the CIS, in other countries of the international community
• Training, retraining and improvement of qualification of scientists in the Russian Federation and other members of the CIS in the area of adult education and educational activities
• Development of recommendations, methodological, analytical, and informational materials to expand adult education opportunities, choice of educational service, their quality improvement, and also in other areas of the Institute´s activities
• Development of a scientific and ethical adult education program, educational and social technologies, means and forms for the organization of education, training, retraining, correction, and development of adults
• Participation in the development and scientific of the state educational policies, strategic areas, objectives, and programs of education and science development in Russia and abroad
• Training of high quality scientists and teachers, including through postgraduate and doctorate training
• Identification and support of talented researchers, contribution to the creative growth and moral development of adults, formation of staff reserves based thereon, participating in the system of continuous education
• Development of the integration of academic and university sciences, scientific and methodological support of the system of training and improvement of qualification of adults in various areas of labour and social practices
• Strengthening of scientific connections and interaction of the Institute and the state industry academies of science, science associations, creative unions, and other organization conducting fundamental and applied research
• Participation in the design, approval, and expert evaluation of educational innovations and social technologies
• Study and analysis of achievements of global science and their use in the interests of the Russian Federation, generalization and distribution of progressive experience in the development of adult education and educational activities, science about adult education in the Russian Federation and abroad
• Cooperation with the government agencies and local government bodies in the development and implementation of educational policies
• Development of pedagogy, psychology, sociology, adult education, ethics, defectology, the management theory and other types of science, ensuring a moral and culture growth of a human being, society and the state
• Scientific and ethical support of society and the state, provision of scientific and methodological assistance in the area of family building, education, and management
• Performances of research and lawmaking activities to form the model legislation, implementation of concepts and plans of measures of member-states of the CIS, EurAsEC, European Union, Russia´s Regions, Russia´s local self-government bodies
• Expert evaluation activities
• Provision of services in the area of adult education
• Production activities for the Institute´s material support
• Presentation of prospective scientific programs and projects to the Founder, proposal of plans of international cooperation
• Holding its own postgraduate and doctorate training in problems constituting the objectives of the Institute´s activities, setting in the Institute a thesis council from among the leading scientists of the Institute and other institutions in one or several specialties for the defence of doctoral and candidates theses pursuant to the effective regulations and requirements of the Highest Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Russian Federation
