To the participants in the Pan-European CONFINTEA VI Preparatory Conference (Budapest, Hungary, 3 - 5 December 2008)
You recently participated in the Pan-European CONFINTEA VI Preparatory Conference, "Adult Learning for Equity and Inclusion in a Context of Mobility and Competition", that was held in Budapest, Hungary, from 3 to 5 December 2008.
On behalf of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and my colleagues, I would like to thank you for your participation and valuable contribution to the debates on progress, trends, challenges, issues and recommendations with regard to literacy, adult education and lifelong learning in the region. This collective reflection led to the adoption of the conference outcome document, which is attached herewith for your information and follow-up. Together with the results from the other regions, it will constitute a critical input for discussion at the CONFINTEA VI Conference, which will take place in Belém do Pará, Brazil, from 19 to 22 May 2009.
The document will furthermore be made available on the CONFINTEA VI website at http://www.unesco.org/uil/confintea6 where you will also find all the relevant information about CONFINTEA VI. Invitations to this conference have been sent out and preparations are well underway. Should you have any question please do not hesitate to contact us.
I look forward to seeing you in Brazil.
