High-level Group on the Lisbon Strategy appointed
President Prodi and Mr Wim Kok announce the establishment of the High-level Group on the mid-term review of the Lisbon strategy in 2005. The decision to set up this Group was taken by the European Council last March. Its remit is to make proposals to the Commission to give renewed stimulus to the Lisbon strategy and to improve actual delivery.
A formation for all
Online formation has not to be seen as a mean only for privileged people. It has rather to perceive it as a powerful tool of education that is accessible to all. The EP election and EAEA

Preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS is a matter of knowledge and informed action. About 50 participants from 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe - regions suffering dramatically under the pandemic - met for a seminar organized by UIE in co-operation with the AIDS Education Program of the University of Chiangmai, the Asian South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education and UNESCO Bangkok to discuss learning strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention aimed at empowering people affected by the disease.

Volunteer work in EAEA
The EAEA offers cooperation opportunities for volunteers in the main office in Brussels and in the link office in Budapest and Helsinki. Professionals of adult education / non-formal education organizations and institutions are invited to pass some time in a work placement in the EAEA and have possibilities to visit European institutions, to attend European conferences and meetings, to establish and to consolidate contacts with the European Commission, with European institutions or other European associations.

Ellproft
20 European organizations have pooled their skills and experiences together in order to create Ellproft, an European Adult Education Centre. Ellproft organizes 10 seminars for adult education and social action professionals in Europe.
Each seminar includes new knowledge, understanding and skills with presentations and case studies of best practice from different locations, settings and countries. Most of these professional development seminars also propose training workshops.
The sharing of their experience will be an important element of each seminar.
NGO Platform

A new thematic web portal has just been launched by the European commission: it aims to provide a user-friendly presentation of the Information Society, grouped under 7 broad themes.

As noted here in EAEA news the European Commission are in the process of developing new& nbsp;programmes for education and lifelong learning as well as citizenship for the programme period 2007-2013.
Turkey - our close neighbourhood
The IIZ/DVV and the Turkish Ministry of Education organised a seminar entitled Adult Education in Turkey and in Europe - Integration Through Lifelong Learning in Istanbul on 25-28 February 2004 for 30 participants such as teachers and directors of Adult Education Centres in Turkey. The key lectures gave an insight into the situation of adult education in Turkey and into the growing co-operation between Turkey and different EU countries, among others Germany.

I am pleased that this newsletter is released, which makes the EAEA's information and communication strategy a living practice.
