The social consequences of the financial crisis
The
plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee, to be
held on February 22-23, will address civil society's main concerns about
the current economic crisis and its social consequences.
José
Manuel Barroso is going to explain the European Commission's position on
the Europe 2020 Strategy and outline the preparation of the Spring
European Council and the Vice-President of the European Commission
Joaquín Almunia will discuss the reform of State aid with the EESC.
Time to celebrate: Erasmus celebrates 25 years
Erasmus, that the European Commission likes to brand "the world's most successful student
exchange programme", celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Nearly
three million students have benefited from a study period or work
placement abroad since the creation of the Erasmus programme in 1987.

Until now most logopedists and therapists believe that children with an auditive or communicative disability such as, deafness, down-syndrome or autism should be brought up in one language. Drs. Mirjam Blumenthal, researcher at the Royal Kentalis, proves the opposite with her presentation.

Literacy: Launch of Global LIFE Mid-term Evaluation Report 2006-2011: Looking Forward with LIFE
The global mid-term evaluation report on UNESCO´s Literacy Initiative
for Empowerment (LIFE, 2006-2015), produced by UIL on the basis of
national and regional mid-term evaluation processes and reports, is now
available online. It seeks to contribute to the effective implementation
of the initiative through to 2015.
