European conference on the
Gender Equality Roadmap: an Opportunity to highlight the Vision of Women's
Organisations.
The European Commission organised on 4-5 May 2006 a
conference on the implementation of its new "Roadmap for equality between
women and men 2006-2010". Speakers from the European Commission itself,
including commissioners Vladimir Spidla and Nelly Kroes, from national governments,
research institutions and from NGOs discussed the different themes included in
the Roadmap. Commissioner Spidla in particular mentioned the need to improve
European legislation in relation to the conciliation of private and
professional life, which could mean that the European Commission is planning to
propose new legislation in this area.
