From Belem to the world: Latest news FISC and CONFINTEA VI

A strategy meeting of the organizing committee of the International Civil Society Forum (FISC) in which more than 50 volunteers took part, discussed the logistics of what will be a three-day event that brings together civil society representatives working with adult education.

Belém prepares to host the International Civil Society Forum (FISC) November 26, 2009 By Ana Abelenda ICAE

The International Civil Society Forum (FISC, for its Portuguese acronym) is an international event on Youth and Adult Education, to be held in Belém, capital of the state of Pará, Brazil, between November 28th and 30th, 2009 at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA, for its Portuguese acronym) headquarters.
This is a plural space for reflection and formulation of proposals that seeks to promote the exchange of experiences and organize the process of incidence in the VI International Conference on Adult Education.

The UFPA hosted the World Social Forum (WSF) 2009 which took place in January and this served as a learning experience on how to manage the organization of various activities at the Forum. Many of the FISC volunteers also participated in the same task during the WSF.

One of the topics discussed were the visual signals of spaces in order that people understand easily and the attendance to the various workshops and forums is quick and clear. To do this, volunteers from the University itself will be those that guide people within the venue.

As for the arrival to the event, participants at the meeting stressed the importance of warning transport users that they must enter through Gate 2 of the UFPA, next to the gym.

Regarding the safety of participants, there will be volunteers in other gates gathering people and taking them to Gate 2 so that they don´t have to walk on their own outside the venue.

Since the Forum expects participants from over 80 countries with a huge diversity of languages, the Forum´s organizing staff will wear colored spots on their identification card representing the languages they speak / understand:
Silver - French
Green - English
Red - Portuguese
Blue - Spanish

There will be an Information Booth to handle doubts on the activities of the Forum, cultural events, transport, hotels and information about the city of Belém.

The "city of mangueiras" in the Brazilian Amazon is preparing to be the first Southern and Latin American host to the Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI) and the International Civil Society Forum which precedes it.
