Scotland's Learning Partnership highlights Adult Learner's Week (15th-21st May 2010)

The European Union recognise the significance and importance of Adult Learners´ Week in helping reach the goals it sets for lifelong learning. That's why across Europe Adult Learners´ Week is celebrated as an example of good practice in addressing issues of exclusion and why we´re delighted to support the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and make it our central theme for the year long programme of activities we will develop.

Since our beginning in 1992 Adult Learners´ Week has been at the forefront of promoting, celebrating and involving adult learners in the design, delivery and dissemination of information to potential learners. Our 2010 theme "Going Back to our Roots" - will help us focus on the significance of Access and Inclusion by ensuring people from all walks of life can, and do, participate in lifelong learning.

During 2010 we are going to develop the work of our three campaigns to have the same focus and put the fun back into Family Learning and take a break with One Hour a Day for Learning.

Throughout the year the partnership will:

• Encourage involvement and political commitment from all parts of society to participate in the fight against poverty and social exclusion through adult and family learning

• Inspire adults and children to take part in learning to address issues of poverty and social exclusion

• Give learners a voice to express their concerns and needs

• Engage with all organisations who want to help address poverty through learning for excluded groups

• Promote a learning society that sustains and develops quality of life, social cohesion and equal opportunities for all
