Figel new EU Commissioner for Education
José Manuel Barroso, the new President of the European Commission has suggested Ján Figel from Slovakia as new Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism.

AE Ireland: Aontas calls on government
Ireland: AONTAS, The National Association of Adult Education has called on the Government to invest 10% of the education budget in the Adult Education Service. Currently approximately 2.8% of the education budget is spent on the Service amounting to approximately €170 million out of a budget of roughly €6billion. ‘Adult education is a key part of lifelong learning and lifelong learning is the key to sustainability within the economy and society as a whole´, said Berni Brady, Director of AONTAS launching the Budget Submission for 2005 in Dublin.
Unesco Peace Education Prize suspended
The International Jury of the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education has decided to suspend the Prize for 2004 and submit to UNESCO some proposals to improve the management and the functioning of the Prize.

EC suggests new Education programme 2007-2013
On Wednesday 14 July, the European Commission adopted proposals for the new generation of programmes in the education, youth, culture and audiovisual fields. These will succeed the current programmes for the period 2007-2013 and aims at being a step towards achieving the Lisbon objective, i.e. making Europe the most competitive knowledge-based economy by 2010.
