EAEA or EUAEA?

In the light of the coming EAEA General Assembly 2006 I would like, one behalf of my own organization, Pskov Regional Adult Education Association, and many other EAEA members from eastern countries, to raise some issues that might be one of the discussion subject matters at the Assembly.

GR2 Contact seminar on inclusion

The recent reports on social inclusion from the EU-15 Member States and four of the new Member States1 confirm that poverty and social exclusion continue to be serious challenges across the European Union. While the reports note progress in several fields, there is little evidence given of any significant improvement in the situation in recent years. They thus demonstrate the need for a continuing strong and visible political commitment to the effective implementation of the Union's social inclusion objectives in combating poverty and social exclusion.

UNIEDA re-opens the debate on the Italian law on lifelong learning

UNIEDA continues the work of the Italian Federation for Continuing Education (FIPEC) created in 1998 to bring together within one association the ‘Popular´ Universities and other important organisations involved in education and training.

Costly ignorance

In a Communication adopted September 8, the Commission stresses the need for European education and training systems to be both efficient and equitable if they are to achieve the necessary quality to help create more growth, jobs and social cohesion.

Towards EQF

The official EQF proposal has now been launched. The official aim is to increase learners' and workers' mobility by making national academic and professional qualifi cations more understandable across Europe.

International Literacy Day 2006: UIL´s Activities

In the context of International Literacy Day 2006, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning will - as in past years - hold an information seminar on literacy for journalists.

Culture and education study

Following an open invitation to tender, the European Commission selected the Pôle universitaire européen de Lorraine to carry out this study.

Make real competences visible

This headline is also the headline of a new Danish website on "real competences". It was published on the 1st of September by the Danish Adult Education Associatio n/Dansk Folkeoplysnings Samråd (DAEA/DFS).

European Dimension comes calling

MEPs have called for more European dimension aspects to permeate the teaching in classrooms across Europe. More specifically, the Education and Culture Committee of the Parliament calls for more background info on the newly approved member states to be presented to learners in the fifteen "old" member states.
