New Call Leonardo da Vinci

The DAPHNE programme is now over. It was launched in 2000 to prevent violence against children, young people and women, provide support to the victims of violence and prevent their future exposure to violence.

Turkey joins the Socrates programme
The Memorandum of Understanding establishing Turkey's participation in the Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and Youth programmes has been signed by the Commission and the Turkish authorities on 15 April 2004. Internal legal procedures are currently underway in Turkey with a view to its entry into force. This MoU shall enter into force on the day of the notification by Turkey of the completion of its internal legal procedures (probably end of April/beginning of May). It shall take effect from 1 April 2004.

France finally passed, in April, the new law related to education and social dialogue.

Editorial: Motherland of Europe is going to be reunited!
The Board of the EAEA, at its Ljubljana meeting at the end of March, supported the suggestion of Sofia Corradi, board member from Italy, to document in the minutes of the meeting that on 1st May 2004 an important thing is going to happen: 10 countries will join the European Union. The EAEA wants to stress that the new countries have always been in Europe, therefore they are not entering, but going to be reunited with their motherland, which is Europe.

Hearing of Mrs Dalia GRYBAUSKAITE, Commissioner nominated by Lithuania
Dalia GRYBAUSKAITE, a former diplomat and currently finance minister of Lithuania, was the chief negotiator of the free trade agreement between her country and the EU, as well as deputy head of the Lithuanian delegation for the accession negotiations. The next step in her career will doubtless be the post at the European Commission for which the Lithuanian authorities have nominated her.
