DEMOS - aiming at producing a Nordic White Paper on Democracy, Active Citizenship and Lifelong Learning
DEMOS is a newly established Nordic learning network on the issue of Democracy and Active Citizenship. A range of Liberal Adult Education Organizations in the Nordic countries stay behind the initiative, such as ABF Norden., FNV and Nordic Folk High School Association. The Nordic network on Adult Learning (NVL) is a platform for the network, concerning a.a. web-based information on www.nordvux.net
The aim of DEMOS is to produce a White Paper on the adressed issues. In the Nordic countries there has been some recent studies on Power and Democracy, and in Finland there is a governmental Policy programme on Democracy. The white paper will intreprete these studies and policy initiatives, and raise some questions concerning citizenship on a local, european and global level. Social capital and basic trust are also important ingredients as parts in a lifewide learning context.
The Editorial Board of DEMOS consists of Erik Amnå, Sweden, Ove Korsgaard, Denmark, Per Selle, Norway and Björn Wallén, Finland.
Secretary is John Steen Johansen from AOF Denmark, which also functions as an office for the network. A kick-off seminar will be held in February 2006. More information will be put on www.nordvux.net
