Ethnic minorities adult education: a space for identity and participation

written by Enrique Pieck, Mexico, 1994

Unfortunately many of the things that this paper deals with occur in many other countries. The situation of ethnic groups around the world is different but does not differ much in terms of a common history of isolation and lack of perspectives within societies that have underestimated the value of alternative cultural perspectives. What Castellanos has said about Chiapas is not much different from the oppression described by Fanon.

This paper is divided in two parts. The first one will give a broad overview of the current situation of ethnic minority groups in Mexico, particularly regarding the recent indigenous rebellion in Chiapas. A second part will focus on the potential adult education has as an instrument to be used by ethnic minority groups to achieve a greater cultural integration.
